Library Cards

Library cards are issued at no cost to individuals residing within the corporate limits of the Village of Clarendon Hills.

Two forms of identification showing the patron's name and Clarendon Hills address are required at the time of application. Examples of acceptable proof of residency include: valid driver's license or state ID, check book, utility bill, lease, or current tax bill.

For children under the age of 18, a parent or legal guardian must present proof of residency and sign a statement of financial responsibility.

Non-Resident Library Cards

It should be noted that not all Clarendon Hills postal addresses are within the corporate limits of the Village of Clarendon Hills. Patrons who live in unincorporated areas and who do not pay taxes to a library may, in accord with Illinois Statutes, purchase library service from the closest public library. The required fee covers all members of the immediate family for the period of one year. Non-resident card holders have full library privileges including reciprocal borrowing and access to interlibrary loan.

The current fee for a Clarendon Hills non-resident card is: $215.00

Loan Periods

The Clarendon Hills Public Library circulates materials in a variety of formats including books, magazines, books on CD and DVDs. A valid library card or ID is required to be presented at time of checkout. The length of time for which an item may be checked out differs by material type and format. Note: The Kindle and Nook eBook readers are available for checkout only by Clarendon Hills Library adult cardholders.

Most items may be renewed at least one (1) time with the exception of New Feature DVDs, New Wii Games and items designated as Special Collection or Display. Renewal is also restricted for any item with a waiting list. See the chart below for detailed information on loan periods and renewal options.

Items may be renewed in person at the Circulation Desk or by telephone with the patron's library card barcode. Online renewal is also available through the "My Account" feature in the SWAN Catalog. First time users will need to create an account and choose a PIN number.

As a courtesy for patrons vacationing or traveling out of town, a longer loan period with no renewal is available on most items. NEW items in any format, the Kindle and Nook eBook readers and materials designated as Special Collection or Display are not eligible for a vacation loan.

Fines and Fees

With the exception of Feature and TV Show DVDs, Juvenile DVDs, Wii games and the Kindle and Nook eBook readers, the overdue fine rate for Clarendon Hills Library materials returned after the due date is $.10 per day. Fines for overdue Feature and TV Show DVDs, Juvenile DVDs, Wii games and eBook readers are charged at the rate of $1.00 per day. The library does not charge fines for Sundays and other days when the building is closed.

For lost or damaged items, please contact the library as soon as possible. In addition to the item cost, a processing fee of $5.00 is charged for each lost or damaged item. This is a standard fee charged by all libraries in the library system.

Fines and fees may be paid by cash or check at the Circulation Desk. Patrons wanting to pay by credit card may do so through the "My Account" feature in the SWAN Catalog. First time users will need to create an account and choose a PIN number.
