Internet Access

General Information

The library provides free public access to the Internet. Three Internet workstations are available for use. Each computer is installed with Internet Explorer, Firefox and Microsoft Office 2003. Filtering software is not used.

A library card valid in Metropolitan Library System is required to access the Internet. Users without a library card or visitors from outside the area have the option to use the 15 minute Internet Express computer.

Internet sessions are timed and may be limited if patrons are waiting. The maximum time allowed per day is 2 hours.

Printing is available but limited to black and white laser copies. The charge is $.10 a page.

Users are reminded to save their files and documents. Saving to a USB flash drive is recommended as all the Internet computers have front-mounted USB ports. Please note that specialized software for burning CDs and/or DVDs is not provided.

Children and Young Adults

To use the library's Internet computers children and young adults under the age of 18 must have on file a signed Internet permission form. This form must be completed and signed, in person, by the child's parent or legal guardian.

An Internet authorization sticker will then be affixed to the child's library card. The child or young adult must present their library card with sticker at the Circulation Desk before Internet access is allowed.

Children under the age of 12 must also be accompanied by a parent or guardian while using a public Internet computer. A parent/legal guardian may name a caregiver who, in their stead, is authorized to accompany the child while on the Internet.

WiFi

Free wireless access to the Internet is available to anyone with a WiFi enabled laptop or other such device. No password is required to connect. While most devices will automatically recognize the library's wireless network, the library does not guarantee connectivity and library staff is not available to troubleshoot user issues.

Users are cautioned that the wireless network is not secure and that any transmission of financial or personal information is at their own risk.

Printing from the wireless network is not available.
